East County residents gathered at the Lucky Pelican Bistro July 17 to help raise funds for seabirds affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. The Jambalaya Bayou Bash featured a Cajun-themed buffet, live music and activities for children.

Lakewood Ranch’s newest community, Central Park, opened to the public today. Visitors enjoyed model home tours, complimentary popcorn and Hawaiian ice and other festivities. The grand-opening event will run through 5:30 p.m., today, and from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., July 18.
