Manatee County residents filled the bus this weekend, donating more than 47,000 pounds of non-perishable foods to the Food Bank of Manatee County during the “Stuff the Bus” campaign.
The Manatee County School District parked school buses in the parking lots of Publix supermarkets throughout the county Nov. 21-22.
“This was a wonderful way to join with Publix and the United Way to help families in Manatee County,” Manatee Schools Superintendent Tim McGonegal said. “We are proud to be part of this effort.”
The response was so great that the Food Bank now is seeking volunteers to help sort the donated items. Interested volunteers should contact Carol Schechterle at 747-4655.
