After surviving an initial car crash, a 49-year-old man was struck and killed by another car traveling on Interstate 75 Sunday morning.
According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, George Jespen, of Bradenton, was a passenger in a vehicle traveling northbound on I-75 at about 12:45 a.m., Oct. 25. Another vehicle, driven by Matthew Young, 28, of Madeira Beach, also was traveling northbound. Young veered off the roadway and onto the shoulder. He overcorrected and sent his vehicle spinning counterclockwise. It overturned several times. The vehicle in which Jespen was traveling, driven by Cherie Cullers, of Bradenton, struck Young's vehicle.
After the crash, Cullers and Jespen exited their vehicle and began walking along the shoulder.
Following the first crash, a third vehicle, driven by Darien Grable, 29, of Sarasota, failed to slow down as it approached the crash. Grable veered to the left to avoid the crashed vehicles and struck and killed Jespen, the reports said.
Young was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Cullers suffered minor injuries.
