LAKEWOOD RANCH — Dick Vitale is at it again.
The Lakewood Ranch resident and ESPN commentator recently released his second children’s book, “Getting a W in the Game of Life.” The 242-page book officially was released Oct. 15, although The Broken Egg restaurant, where fans can find Vitale dining and reading the newspaper most mornings, secured copies of the book early.
Vitale's proceeds from the book go to the V Foundation for Cancer for a pediatric cancer research grant.
“I’m really excited about it,” Vitale said, noting the book is intended primarily for youth. “It exemplifies everything I believe in. It’s for people of all ages.
“We talk in the book about decision making, bullying,” he said. “I talk about togetherness, being a millionaire in life.”
Vitale uses the stories of people he’s met and from his own life to share about enthusiasm, attitude and mental toughness and also to address social issues, such as gossiping, with “straight shooting” and “defensive strategy” tips for readers.
Vitale said it’s a “must read” for youth. Autographed copies of the book are available at The Broken Egg.
