Almost exactly two years from today, The Mall at University Town Center will open.
Representatives of Taubman Centers and Benderson Development, along with elected officials and local business representatives, gathered this afternoon to celebrate the start of construction on the mega mall project that will bring high-end retailers to the University Parkway corridor.
"It's truly a regional development," said Benderson's Mark Chait. "The mall itself is 880,000 square feet with three department stores. I think the most exciting thing is 50% (of the stores) will be new to this market."
The mall is slated to open at 10 a.m. Oct. 16, 2014.
