Members of the Manatee County School Board on Oct. 8 accepted a contract with David Gayler, as the district’s interim superintendent of schools.
Gayler, former superintendent of Charlotte County Schools and a former assistant superintendent for Manatee County schools, will start Oct. 15.
As per his contract, he will complete his service by March 29, at which time he has other commitments.
School Board members expressed concern they may not have a permanent superintendent in place by April 1, but said they feel confident the district will be ready. Representatives of the Florida School Boards Association, the agency that is assisting with the search, said a search should take four to six months.
A public hearing to solicit input on the qualities and other attributes of a new permanent superintendent will be held at 6 p.m. Oct. 11, at Braden River High School, 6545 53rd Avenue East, Bradenton.
