The Gulf Coast Latin Chamber Board of Directors will host its Gala celebration at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 2, at Lakewood Ranch Golf and Country Club, 7650 Legacy Blvd.
The celebration will include great food, live music, dancing and a silent auction to benefit the Gulf Coast Latin Chamber scholarship fund.
The Latin Chamber Awards 2009 also will recognize the businesses that have a track record of outreach to the Hispanic-Latino community in the following categories:
• Business of the Year — Businesses which demonstrate excellent customer service, profitability, growth, innovation and employee development.
• Entrepreneur of the Year — Businesses which have proven their creativity and have used innovation to overcome challenges, improve services or products, etc.
• Non-profit of the Year — Organizations which provide services in an effective and culturally competent manner, to the Latino community.
• Outstanding Latino Business — Latino owned businesses who have overcome barriers found by newcomers and through persistence, adaptability, determination and community involvement have succeeded in business.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
