A local non-profit aimed at helping cancer patients and their families officially is expanding into the East County.
The Wellness Center of Southwest Florida recently broke ground on its new 22,000-square-foot facility in Lakewood Ranch Corporate Park. The center is expected to serve 6,000 cancer patients and their caregivers annually with support and information at no cost.
About $1.8 million is still needed to complete the $6.8 million facility.
