+ Simonds selected for leadership institute
Warren G. Simonds, vice president and CMO for Lakewood Ranch-based Willis A. Smith Construction Inc., was selected to participate in the 2010 Class of the Gulf Coast Leadership Institute.
The Gulf Coast Community Foundation of Venice has selected 27 leaders from across the region to participate in this program. The group currently is taking part in a three-month leadership development program in Venice led by the nationally recognized Fanning Institute of the University of Georgia. In exchange for their training, participants have committed to use their newly acquired skills for the long-term benefit of the community.
Leadership institute participants will meet for seven sessions between May and July. Upon graduating from the institute, they will join 54 alumni who participated in the first two classes of Gulf Coast Leadership Institute.
+ Ranch releases new home sites
LWR Communities announced last week the release of home sites in a new section of Country Club East.
The first section of Secret Harbor will be released this week for reservations.
“We are seeing a very high demand for our 62-ft. home sites,” said LWR Communities President Milt Flinn. “We are thrilled to be able to open up more home sites in this size range, surrounding beautiful Lake Royal, and expect some to sell and close by November of this year.”
So far this year, there have been more than 100 lots either reserved, under contract or sold in Lakewood Ranch. Eighty-five homes currently are under construction. There are 200 single-family homes on the market in Lakewood Ranch, which amounts to less than 3% of the inventory, and 158 homes have sold on the resale market so far in 2010. The average price at closing of a new home in Lakewood Ranch this year was $576,710, with the average price of a resale home coming in at $434,807.

The Main Street Trattoria will include a “two-way” bar accessible to patrons inside and outside the restaurant, along with seating for casual outdoor dining.
“Lakewood Ranch’s Main Street is developing a great line-up of restaurants offering diverse cuisine, and Holland is extremely pleased to be a part of this growth. It is an encouraging economic sign,” said Craig Campbell, vice president for Holland’s Florida office.
