The Rotary Club of East Manatee recently decided to “go green” and join only a handful of Rotary clubs worldwide that have become an eco club. In addition to continuing to support local, national and international Rotary programs, club members will concentrate on projects that will have a positive impact to the environment.
Club members are committed to sustainable lifestyle changes to improve local recycling and energy consumption habits through practical education and awareness programs and by being personal examples in the community. They will promote "Reuse, Reduce and Recycle" programs as individuals and as an organization. The club also will recognize exemplary "green" organizations, businesses and individuals that demonstrate social responsibility and creative ideas in support of sustainable development and ethical practices for the environment.
A few of the club’s upcoming activities include cleaning its Adopt-A-Road adjacent to Ellenton Prime Outlets and continued environmental education for club mem bers and the public.
The club meets at 7 a.m. Thursdays, at Popi’s Place, 3911 U.S. 301 N., Ellenton. For more information about membership opportunities and requirements, call President Melissa Hammond at 737-7634 or President-Elect Rob Hunt at 447-3706 or visit the Web site at www.rotaryclubofeastmanatee.com.
