Braden River High School student James "Jim" Watson Bradin III recently was appointed to the U.S. Air Force Academy.
"He's the first one in my family to go to a service academy and only the second person in my family to ever serve in the Air Force," said Jim's father Ret. Lt. Col. James Bradin, who teaches JROTC at Braden River .
Each year members of the House and Senate nominate senior high school students they represent for admission to the U.S. Air Force, Merchant Marine, Military and Naval Academies. Applicants appointed by their congressman have met strict qualifications and have been interviewed and recommended by a non-partisan Service Academy Board.
Jim Bradin is one of 12 area students who were nominated by Congressman Vern Buchanan to receive an appointment to a U.S. Service Academy.
“I congratulate these outstanding young men and women for their appointments,” Buchanan said. “They should take pride in having successfully competed with so many students from across the country. It is an honor not only for them, but for all who have supported them along the way. I wish them the best of luck and have every confidence that they will serve our nation with honor.”
A reception for recipients will be hosted by Buchanan at 3:30 p.m., May 2,9 at the Community Foundation, 2365 Fruitville Road, Sarasota.
