National Football League Hall of Famer Jim Brown is scheduled to be the featured speaker at the Manatee School District’s Amer-I-Can Graduation Ceremony at 11 a.m., May 19, at Braden River High School, 6545 S.R. 70 E.
Brown is a founder and the CEO of Amer-I-Can, a program that strives to help teenagers overcome some of society’s most pressing problems by teaching positive self esteem and valuable life-management skills. The Amer-I-Can program operates in four district middle schools — Harllee, Johnson, Lincoln and Sugg. Students take the course for a full semester and are taught by specially trained facilitators.

Dancing group to host fundraiser
Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
