The Manatee County School District honored East County middle school teacher Carrie Rainwater Thursday night, as one of the county's top educators, during the EdVantage Education Awards ceremony.
Rainwater, an eighth-grade science teacher at Nolan Middle School, was one of four finalists recognized March 6, for the Educator of theYear award.
Teacher Zadda Bazzy, music teacher at Oneco Elementary, took home the Educator of the Year title, while Todd Persinger, head custodian at Anna Maria Island Elementary School, won Support Employee of the Year.
Incoming Superintendent Rick Mills made his debut as part of the ceremony.

Dancing group to host fundraiser

Members of KC and the Sunshine Dancers, a group of Manatee County dancers ages 8 to 20, will show off their dancing skills in jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance from 7 to 9 p.m. May 28, as the group holds a show titled "Breaking Ground."
