The Manatee County Board of County Commissioners has made an exception for signage for the Ellenton Ice & Sports Complex.
The facility now will be allowed to erect a new electronic sign — smaller in design than previously planned — on which it can use offsite advertising. Previously, the rink only could advertise on site businesses and services.
Rink co-owner Mike Bennett said the change is meant to help make signage more in compliance with the intent of the county's sign ordinance by reducing the sign's height and overall size. The offsite advertising also will help pay for the cost of the new sign, he said.
