Dozens of children, teens and adults hit the Lakewood Ranch pavement March 7 for the annual Take Stock in Children of Manatee County 10K Run/Walk and Fun Run. Participants enjoyed coffee, juice and donuts and other entertainment before hitting the streets. Superintendent Tim McGonegal served as the official Race Marshall.

The event, which featured live music from several bands, raised money for Taking Back Lives, To Write Love in Her Arms, SOLVE Maternity Home, Honor Sanctuary Animal Rescue, Community Haven for Adults and Children with Disabilities and the Food Bank of Manatee.

Dozens of East County children cast their lines for the Fourth Annual Youth Fishing Tournament Sunday at Summerfield Lake in Lakewood Ranch. The event, hosted by Lakewood Ranch Community Activities and the Lakewood Ranch Anglers Club, included two hours of fishing, a picnic lunch and an awards ceremony. Prizes were awarded to the top fishermen in each of three age categories.
