The Concession Golf Club and the Beach Bistro Culinary joined forces to raise money for the All Children's Hospital Foundation and the Aldo Castaneda Foundation with the Culinary Winter Carnival golf and dining event Jan. 21-22. Participants enjoyed a variety of golfing opportunities, guided fishing excursions and an assortment of food some from of the area's finest chefs as part of the festivities.

East County residents rolled the dice at The Lake Club Jan. 22 as they helped raise funds for the SaraMana chapter of ORT. Guests enjoyed wine and appetizers while making rounds to tables of Black Jack, Craps and other games during the special Casino Night event.

U.S. Women's Open Champion Paula Creamer conducted a clinic for members and their guests in celebration of the fifth anniversary of The Ritz- Carlton Members Golf Club Jan. 22. During the clinic, Creamer provided instructional tips and insight into her winning shots, answered questions and demonstrated some of her shots.

Hundreds of animal lovers helped the Lakewood Ranch Humane Society start 2011 with a bang during the organization's Kick-Off Bash Jan. 20 at the home of Lou and Ann Marie Marinaccio in The Concession. Guests enjoyed wine, hors d'ouerves, live music and more while raising money for the new animal organization.

More than 50 members of the Palm-Aire Nine Hole Women's Golf Association bundled up and hit the green for the association's Breast Health Day nine-hole tournament Jan. 13. Members enjoyed a luncheon before teeing off to benefit breast health. Following the tournament, participants enjoyed an ice cream social.

The Tabernacle Christian School middle school student Lauren Medred, an East County resident, earned top vocal honors, taking first place in vocal solo female category of the Florida League of Christian School’s Festival of the Academics and Arts Feb. 28 and March 1 at Southeastern University in Lakeland.
Manatee County schools dominated a state technology competition with five of six top-three finishes earned by Manatee County schools during the 35th annual Technology Student Association State Competition late February.
