Members of the Palm Aire Country Club recently dug out their old high school letter sweaters and jackets, cheer-leader outfits and poodle skirts for a 50's-style Sock Hop that rocked the house.

Braden River High School celebrated its 2010 Prom May 22 at Bradenton Municipal Auditorium. This year's theme, 'Walk Through Wonderland,' featured colorful decor and a variety of treats.

McNeal Elementary students and staff prepared a variety of treats — from breakfast delights to stage performances — as part of the school's Volunteer Breakfast May 20. The breakfast honored the many parents who volunteered time throughout the school year.
Education rocks at Braden River

Braden River Elementary's Fine Arts Team featured music from different eras as part of the Rock with Write Wednesday program May 19. Students and teachers dressed up in the music era and style of their choice, studied the music and its cultural background and danced.
Braden River stages earthquake relief effort

Braden River Middle School students and teachers did their part for earthquake relief for Haiti and Chile at the school's Sharing Hands Across the Lands event May 15. The event featured every fair activity and offering imaginable, including face-painting, a blow-up slide, a rock-climbing wall, a bounce house, obstacle course, dunk tank and carnival games. More than 100 students, 27 parents and one teacher involved began planning the event in January after an earthquake hit Haiti.
ODA Relay nets more than $50,000

More than 300 eager supporters from 25 teams participated in the American Cancer Society's Relay For Life May 14-15 at The Out-of-Door Academy's Lakewood Ranch campus. The weekend event raised more than $50,000 for the cancer organization. The event included plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the night, including separate activities for younger children at the 'Mini Relay,' a powderpuff football game, karaoke, a cardboard car race, a Relay Diva competition and more.
Golfers take aim against brain cancer

East County residents took aim against pediatric brain cancer during the Payton Wright Foundation Golf Outing & Concert event today. Golfing began around noon at the Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club. Festivities will continue tonight as the Payton Wright Foundation hosts an auction, dinner and concert by country musician David Nail at The Lake Club.
