Neighborhood: Tara
Neighbor since: 1995

Ed Maloney began his acting career at age 67, after a life as a national sales manager for American Home Products Corp.

Maloney, now 80 and still acting, got his break in 2003, when he performed “Singin’ in the Rain” at the Tara Follies, a now-defunct talent show, at Tara Golf and Country Club.

Singing in front of 45 people, Maloney earned applause and took a bow.

Later that year, he returned to his hometown in New Jersey and saw an ad for a casting agency in a Philadelphia newspaper.

For the past 10 years, Maloney, untrained in acting, has played bit parts in roles that fit him. He played a white-haired, old-school, boxing enthusiast in “Annapolis,” a 2006 drama starring James Franco, and an American Naval attaché to a Russian ambassador in “Death Without Consent,” a 2007 thriller.

He also earned $100 to model a walker for a magazine.

IN HIS OWN WORDS
"On what would have happened had he started his acting career earlier: “I took drama class in high school, but that was it. If I would have pursued it further, I would have gone to Hollywood. I would also have liked to play a role with Ben Stiller. He is such a character. A dream would be to walk down the red carpet at the Academy Awards.”

On other highlights from an outside-the-box career: “I served in the Army for two years in Alaska. I played a lot of basketball there, including a stint in the Alaska Armed Forces Tournament in 1955, as a 6-foot, 2-inch forward for the Fort Richardson Army. I also was a sports analyst for Armed Forces Radio in Alaska.”
