Suspicious sunset-watchers
6:53 p.m. — 5700 block of GMD. Suspicious Persons. A condominium resident told police that she allowed several men to cross to a beach access for residents only. Police found that one of the men works at a nearby convenience store and the other is staying at the condominium on vacation and came out to watch the sunset.

EAST COUNTY
Oct. 18
A mere coincidence
12:45 p.m. — 2911 53rd Ave. E. (Walmart). Retail grand theft. A male suspect selected $654.98 in merchandise while a female suspect selected $34.88 in merchandise. The two parties had split up within the store and allegedly did not work together to steal the items. The suspects then passed all points of sale without purchasing the items they had selected.

Oct. 10
The ‘customer’ isn’t always right
10:32 a.m. — 200 block of North Lime Avenue. Suspicious Person. A store manager told police that a woman left her store with unpaid merchandise in her bag. When the manager approached the suspect, she screamed, “You can’t search my bag!” The woman then fled into the parking lot, and the manager lost sight of her when she vanished into a wooded area.

Oct. 14
The heat is on
10:30 a.m. — 3900 block of Higel Avenue. Grand Theft. The complainant told a deputy that a pool heater had been stolen between noon Oct. 12 and 10:30 a.m. Oct. 14. The heater had been at the rear of a residence, the complainant said, adding that his company had been working on its installation. One of the company’s employees had called the complainant to say the heater was missing. The heater is valued at approximately $1,800. The complainant also reported that none of the neighbors had seen anything suspicious; he suspected one of his employees had stolen the property.
