Spiritual battle

4:31 p.m. — 4700 block of GMD. Mental Case. A hotel manager reported a guest was behaving strangely and had turned over his salad plate onto a chair. The guest told police he was recently released from Manatee County Jail after he demanded that a store clerk install a LoJack chip inside his 10-year-old son; he said voices belonging to either Jesus Christ or the Boogeyman told him to do so. He also told police he was fighting the devil and if he ate poisoned mushrooms, “It would not look like suicide.” The man told police to wait while he grabbed the slingshot he dropped in an earlier battle with a demon. No slingshot was located. Police transported the man to Manatee Glens Treatment Center in Bradenton and completed Baker Act paperwork.

ELWOOD PARK
Sept. 11

Put that dog on a leash!
6:30 p.m. — 4900 block of 34th Avenue East. Animal bite. The complainant was walking down the road, allegedly stepping in the grass of the neighbor’s property. The neighbor’s 11-month-old American bulldog was loose and bit the victim on the back of her left leg, causing a small puncture. An animal Control office took photos, completed the appropriate forms and took the dog for quarantine.

Sept. 4
Final resting place?

10:35 a.m. — 700 block of Central Avenue. Suspicious Person. A woman told police that she observed a man walk up to the locked front door of a theater, where he left a small dead yellow parakeet in the dirt near the front door.

Sept. 5
Some light lifting, too
Noon — 4000 block of Banan Place. Grand Theft. A woman reported a man she had met through a craigslist.com ad for movers had stolen money from her purse at Target as well as items from her residence. She had hired the suspect and a second man to help her move. During that move, she reported, she noticed several iPods and jewelry were missing. Among the jewelry reported stolen were diamond and emerald rings and a pearl necklace. The mover apparently had more on his mind than lifting furniture.
