Wild and free
1:35 p.m. — Unknown block of State Road 70 East. Animal complaint. The sheriff’s deputy responded to a call regarding an emu walking along S.R. 70. Upon his arrival, he observed the emu walking in the grass along the south side of the road and sometimes onto the pavement in front of traffic. He attempted to locate an owner and was unsuccessful but did find someone who told him the emu had been there for about three months. He and another deputy then roped the emu, tied its legs together and placed it in the bed of the deputy’s vehicle. The deputy then notified animal rescue, which took the emu for safekeeping.
