The following information was gathered from incident and arrest reports obtained from the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
March 25
Dude, where’s my wallet?
9:12 a.m. — 600 block of 67th Street Circle East. Petit theft. The victim was hanging out with friends and drinking at the listed address. When he awoke in the morning, he discovered his wallet was missing, although he did not see anyone take it. There were several people in and out of the room all night. There were no witnesses to the crime.
April 4
False filing
3 p.m. — 8200 block of Miramar Way. Fraud/Use/Possession of ID without consent. The victim reported her identity had been stolen. The victim said she filed her taxes with the IRS and her taxes were kicked back. After contacting the IRS, the victim contacted local authorities, as requested by the agency.
Scratching the surface
5:30 p.m. — 2900 block of State Road 70 East. Criminal mischief felony of $1,000 or more. The victim called to report his vehicle was parked in the parking lot of the store, and unknown person(s) scratched both sides of his vehicle’s doors and the hood with an unknown object. The unknown person(s) then fled the area. Damages are estimated at $1,200.
10 p.m. — 3500 bock of 46th Street East. Criminal mischief. The victim had his driver side and trunk keyed by unknown person(s). He estimated damages at $500.
April 5
Car crime
6:40 a.m. — 4500 block of Egmont Drive. Criminal mischief felony $1,000 or more. The victim reported an unknown person(s) intentionally damaged his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway. The victim stated it would cost $3,500 to repair the damage. He stated that an unknown blunt object was used to smash his driver’s side mirror and his driver’s side rear brake light. Unknown person(s) also used the blunt object to dent the driver’s side panel, the hood and the driver’s side wheel wells.
Unwanted guests
3:26 p.m. — Cooper Creek/Tourist Center Drive. Trespass warning. The deputy met with the complainant about two individuals who were panhandling and had repeatedly been asked to leave the property owned by Benderson Development. While in the deputy’s presence, the complainant informed the individuals they were trespassing and were no longer allowed on Benderson’s property for six months and they would be arrested if they returned. Fingerprints were obtained from the suspects.
April 6
Fraud by filing
12:01 a.m. — 7900 block of Conservatory Circle. Fraud/Use/Possession of ID without consent. Unknown person(s) used the victim’s Social Security number to file a fraudulent 2011 tax return without the victim’s permission/knowledge. The victim was requested to by the IRS to file a police report.
11:19 a.m. — 5900 block of Sandstone Avenue. Fraud/Use/Possession of ID without consent. The victim came to the Sheriff’s Office to report unknown persons had used her Social Security number to file taxes.
APRIL 5
SCAM ALERT
5:05 p.m. — 1300 block of Hidden Circle East. Information. The reporting party stated he received an e-mail soliciting employees for a mail-forwarding service, and he entered into a working agreement by providing his name, address and phone number. The victim became suspicious about the process and researched the company information provided. He learned it is a scam, so he reported the scam to the FBI website and completed this report.
