The New College Foundation celebrated the inauguration of the fifth president of the college, Dr. Donal O’Shea, Saturday, Feb. 16, at New College of Florida. More than 400 guests — including alumni, professors, current students, trustees and members of Dr. O’Shea’s family — enjoyed a cocktail hour in College Hall and then headed out to the large tent out by the bay front to enjoy a three course meal provided by Michael’s On East. The evening was topped off with dancing to music by the Abe Guard Orchestra. See photos here.
Love was the central theme at Safe Place and Rape Crisis Center’s LOVE Fashion Show Thursday, Feb. 14, at The Ritz-Carlton Sarasota. The annual fashion show featured 18 models and 50 different outfits, all put together from pieces at the Treasure Chest, SPARCC’s consignment shop.
Les McCurdy and Ken Sons kept the audience in stitches while MC’ing the fashion show for their 12th year in a row. All 645 attendees also had the opportunity to write notes to the women at the SPARCC shelter — they do not celebrate Valentine’s Day, but instead celebrate Person Appreciation Day, in which kind notes and affirmations are given to each other.
