Nik Wallenda told The Observer in July he had been working on plans to cross the Grand Canyon sans safety net or harness, but he couldn’t confirm a date.

He confirmed the date on the “Today” show this morning. Wallenda will be crossing the Grand Canyon June 23. At 1,500 feet above the Colorado River, it’s the highest walk of his career.

He’s excited to ditch the safety nets, which actually inhibit the man who has been training his entire career without a harness. Wallenda has been practicing with wind machines and plans to practice with a hurricane simulator to prepare for his June walk.

Another thing he announced last summer was his plan to do a cross-continental walk from Europe to Asia via the Bosphorus Strait in Turkey. He referred to these plans on the “Today” show, saying it’s his next big move.
