The Golden Apple's doors close in second eviction within a year

The Golden Apple’s landlord, Great Lakes Developments, Inc., has closed the doors of The Golden Apple Dinner Theatre for a second time within a year.
“The landlord took the space back; The Golden Apple is closed,” says Stanley Browne Saturday, March 9. Browne, a new partner in the theater since January 1, suggests he’s still having conversations with the landlord.
The news came eight days after a sell-out production of “Let’s Hang On,” a tribute to Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons March 1.
The first eviction took place September 10, 2012 when a sheriff’s notice was put on the doors of 25 N. Pineapple stating the eviction has been completed. The theater was then under ownership of Robert Turoff. On Jan. 1 the theater reopened with new partners Stanley Browne, John Finocchio and Robert Nederlander.
Turoff has served as an emcee and front-man, but has had no proprietary or financial interest invested since the theater reopened.
According to Turoff, the partners approached the landlord to ask for a longer lease as a way to advance some of the money that was invested into the theater, but the landlord wouldn’t budge. The landlord has yet to comment.
For Turoff, the eviction news is a relief.
“These last six months have been really hard trying to get (the theater) reopened and working at it,” he says. “But now we’re going to spend our time helping our daughter Kyle get PLATO off the ground.”
PLATO is a nonprofit professional theater company, which began in May 2012.
