Vino for the Sole

Talk about the best girls day out ever ? Forty Carrots Family Center truly knows how to attract the ladies, especially when shoes and wine are involved. On Thursday, Oct, 19, Co-Chairwomen Nora Johnson and Lynn Morris proved that they could not only successfully start a new event, but also make it even better the next year. ?Wine, Women and Shoes? ran, not walked, its way into the social season?s luncheon hall of fame this year by more than doubling its attendance from the previous year. Ladies packed The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota?s entire ballroom shopping for shoes and sipping wine.
The event, which is the brainchild of winemaker Elaine Honig (Forty Carrots Family Center Co-Executive Director Betsy Kane-Hartnett?s good friend), who was in attendance at the luncheon, features shoes from female designers and wines from women-owned wineries. Ladies not only scrounged, but they raced to buy the fabulous shoes out from each others? toes. Husbands, don?t despair, the purchase of these shoes were all for a good cause ? Forty Carrots Family Center. Following the foot frenzy, gals and their pals took seat at their perspective tables that featured an urn (no buckets at this benefit) of wines and bunches of hydrangeas. While noshing on their nibbles, ladies were treated to a show of shoes, paraded by the ?Sole Men,? who carried phenomenal footwear down a runway and in between tables on a silver platter ? yes, a silver platter. We agree ? There?s nothing better.
Last year?s event made close to $100,000. We?re anxious to hear how this year fared. One thing is for sure ? it was full of footwear fun, to boot.
