The ball is back.
Previously known as ?The Bishop?s Ball,? this event for years ranked among the top tier of Greater Sarasota?s Black Tie galas. Regardless of religious beliefs, overflowing crowds filled the Chelsea Center ballroom for sparkling night of dinner, dancing and donating to the Diocese of Venice?s Catholica Charities.
But after a few years of soft attendance, this year the ball came back with a bang.
Co-Chairwomen Helen Nugent and Mary Kenealy-Barbetta and Honorary Co-Chairwomen Maria DeSanto and Eileen Donovan resurrected the ?Catholic Charities Ball: An Enchanted Evening in Italy? on Thursday, Jan. 24, at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota.
The night was truly enchanted for gala guests and special guests, Bishop Frank Dewane and his predecessor Bishop John Nevins, who all wore their best black-tie attire along with Venetian masks.
Circus Sarasota provided entertainment with jugglers, stilt walkers and an amazing hand-balancing act.
A delectable dinner preceded a live auction emceed by ABC 7?s Bob Harrigan. Guests took to the dance floor in between courses and after the auction and danced to Mainstream?s mainstream tunes. The evening benefited Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice Inc.
