There was no one more dazzling than Beatrice Friedman, the honoree at the gala, ?Bea-Dazzled,? hosted by the Florida West Coast Symphony Jan. 19, at The Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota.
Oh, what a night! It was a magical, musical evening with the perfect combination of kitsch and class that must be attributed to Chairwoman Anne Folsom-Smith and her co-chairwomen, Beverly Marsh and Vivian Kouvant. And, the, and we do mean the, who?s who of Sarasota was there.
The evening began with gala guests greeting Friedman who was perched on her own dazzling ?throne,? before she was whisked into the ballroom via fancy-schmancy golf cart. The Florida West Coast Symphony played some of Friedman?s favorite tunes conducted by Maestro Leif Bjaland and Assistant Conductor Dirk Meyer, before Sarasota Music Festival Artistic Director Robert Levin premiered his composition in Friedman?s honor. Ballroom dancers Maksym Lotoskyy and Elizabeth Cartier danced to the symphony before the finale, for which Friedman was given her own baton and conducted the symphony herself.
