|Black Tie Standouts 2006-2007|

Orchid Ball 'Luna Toscana'
If there ever was a more elegant evening we'd be surprised. Marie Selby Botanical Gardens' 26th annual fundraiser brought Sarasota's society scene up to a new level in April 2007. With Nora Johnson at the helm, guests socialized under the Selby's banyans and enjoyed a fabulous feast at long tables under a crystal clear tent.
Robert de Warren Tribute Dinner
It's not often that a tribute dinner is truly meaningful to both the honoree and attending guests. Chairwoman Chris Pfahler and Honorary Chairwoman Wand Rayle put together a special night in March 2007 for Sarasota Ballet of Florida's retiring Artistic Director Robert de Warren that included toasts, pictures, videos and a performance featuring excerpts from de Warren's ballets.
Wine Women and Shoes
First of all, it's a win-win combination - wine, women and shoes. This event, held in Oct. 2006, is another one of Nora Johnson's creations along with her friend, Lynn Morris. Wine, Women and Shoes" ran, not walked, its way into the social season's luncheon hall of fame this year by more than doubling its attendance from the previous year.
This season our letter openers are worn out from tearing through the oodles of invites that packed our mailboxes. Our favorites range from the always-funny Animal Rescue Coalition "A Dog's Night Out' and "Best in Show" to Girls Inc.'s "Celebration Luncheon" diary-like invitation.
Clockwise from top left: the Ringling School of Art and Design's "An Evening oat the Avant-Garde: Anything Goes"; Asolo Repertory Theatre's "Viva Las Asolo"; Mote Marine Laboratory's "Oceanic Evening: On Green Dolphin Street"; Sarasota Film Festival's "Filmmakers Tribute Dinner"; Girls Inc.'s "Celebration Luncheon: This One's for the Girls"; The Wellness Community's "The Layover"; Animal Rescue Coalition's "Best in Show Cat-Can-Can" and "A Dog's Night Out"; and the Jewish Housing Council Foundation's "Travels with Jim and Nikki."
