A grand groundbreaking

It was no ordinary groundbreaking at the opening of USF Sarasota-Manatee's new campus center Saturday, Sept. 30. Instead of hard hats, guests donned black tie for the opening celebration of the beautiful new building next to the Crosley Mansion. The President's Appreciation Gala, which was co-chaired by David and Myrna Bank and Robbie and Mary Ann Robinson, was a gift to the special friends of the university.
The evening began with a champagne toast and a commemorative picture of guests in the rotunda of the Campus Center. USF President Judy Genshaft welcomed guests and assured people that USF Sarasota-Manatee would continue to be "an academic powerhouse and penthouse," joking that the beautiful new building resembled the beautiful penthouses that line Sarasota's skyline. Finally, guests gathered around the plush courtyard where they enjoyed cocktails and cuisine by the bite by Michael's On East. The pleasant evening then culminated in a fabulous fireworks display.
