The Glenridge Performing Arts Center presents "Nutcracker" by Jazz Juvenocracy, co-produced by GPAC and Jazz Juvenocracy, at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at 7333 Scotland Way, Sarasota. There will also be performances at 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22 and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23. Jazz Juvenocracy presents a truly unique version of Tchaikovsky's beloved holiday tradition. The music of Duke Ellington, Billy Strayhorn, John Coltrane, David Berger and the Sultans of Swing comes alive in this high energy, contemporary retelling of the heartwarming holiday classic. Imaginique Contemporary Ballet Company features several former members of the Sarasota Ballet dancing the roles of the Arabians, Flowers and the Sugar Rum Cherry. The choreography by MaryElizabeth Ameal, staging by Stefan Gernaga, and original arrangements by Jazz Juvenocracy provide a fresh twist on a long held favorite.
