Playwright Karen Brody interviewed over 100 low-risk, educated mothers about their birth experiences and turned what she discovered into a critically acclaimed play BIRTH. Maternally Yours, a weekly program on Sarasota’s community radio station WSLR 96.5 LPFM, is bringing BIRTH to Sarasota. Performances will be held in the New College of Florida Black Box Theater (inside Hamilton Center on New College's Pei Campus) on October 5 and 6, at 7 pm. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door, and are available at boldaction.org. Special rates for seniors, military, children and groups are available. Face Autism Inc. held a skate party for families Saturday, July 11, at Stardust Skate Center. Families were able to rent skates and skate for two hours for free thanks to the Sarasota-based nonprofit founded by Colleen Buccieri. The Manasota roller-derby team, the Rolling Renegades, helped children skate. The team has skated with Face Autism families for more than a year. "They're great kids," says teammate Shylynn "Tess Tickles" Gamble.

The Romanach and Casella families compete in a cornhole tournament July 12, at Sun ‘n Sea Cottages. The families have been vacationing on Longboat Key for over 14 years and six years ago, decided to organize and play in a cornhole tournament during their stay.

Siesta Key Beach transformed into a volleyball haven for the 2014 Dig the Beach Volleyball Series Saturday, July 12 and Sunday, July 13. Professional and amateur volleyball players ages 10 years and up will compete in the day two-day tournament.
