The Sarasota Medieval Fair introduces our 4th annual Student Discovery Day on Friday, November 16, 2012 — A festival day set exclusively for students! (This day is not open to the general public) The Student Discovery Day offers an engaging learning experience for students, and is a perfect opportunity to see curriculum in action. Teachers are provided with resource materials and classroom activities prior to the festival to prepare students for a full Medieval Era experience! WHEN: Friday, Nov. 16, 2012 (Open 9am-3pm) WHERE: Sarasota Fairgrounds - Sarasota, Florida COST: $5.00/student ¨ Schools will receive one FREE adult chaperone ticket for every 10 student tickets purchased. Additional teachers/chaperone tickets are $10.00. Bus drivers get in FREE and parking is FREE. ¨ PLUS, students will receive a FREE Student Ticket ($14.95 value) at the end of their visit to come back to the festival for FREE that weekend (Nov. 17-18, 2012) with their families and friends!!! ¨ Schools who purchase a minimum of 20 student tickets, may elect to receive a FREE 3’x3’ blank cloth canvas. The purpose of the canvas is for the students to make a crest or design representing their class/school. Canvases will be displayed at the festival Jousting Field for all to see!!! ¨ Students will receive a FREE individual character biography card as they enter the park. Each character biography card represents a real person in history who had an essential role in this year’s theme. The card provides unique facts about a specific person in history, what side they were on, what social class they were, and more. On March 8, the community of Longboat Key was invited to attend an Open House showcasing all town departments and the services they provide. The morning included demonstrations, tours and opportunities to learn more about issues that affect the Key.

With sunglasses and drinks in hand, attendees of the fourth Polo Under the Palms event March 8 at the Sarasota Polo Club grounds, enjoyed the sunshine and a polo match. Proceeds from food and drink sales benefited research, education and patient care programs at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and the Center for Building Hope.

Attendees of the Just Play Sports Fest March 8, munched on snow cones, enjoyed a backyard tailgate party with live music from Gamble Creek, and spent the afternoon at Premier Sports Campus at Lakewood Ranch playing cornhole, and other games. The day began with a 5K run in the morning, and continued with a lacrosse tournament, which lasted throughout the day, in addition to the outdoor festival. Event coordinator Todd Herrick planned to charge event participates $10 for adults and $5 for children, but decided to waive the fees and promote the sale of raffle tickets for prizes. Proceeds from the sports-centered event benefited The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
