+ Ballet bites
Sarasota Ballet got 2010 off to a great start with a triple-header of the classic “Paquita,” the dramatic “Othello” and Matthew Bourne’s charmingly contemporary and comedic “Boutique.” In attendance: renowned ballet critics Jack Anderson and George Dorris. In a case of six degrees of separation, Anderson authored the definitive volume on ballet in South Africa, where Sarasota Ballet founder Jean Weidner began her stellar career.

Weidner will be honorary chairwomen of the ballet’s 20th anniversary, which will kick off with “TuTu Terrific,” a cocktail party Wednesday, March 24, at Michael’s On East. Dancers will be there to mingle and model costumes. Hillary Steele is chairwoman. Call 359-0099, Ext. 112.

+ Reverse relocation
While most snowbirds fly south to Sarasota, theater folks Bob and Beverly Bartner headed north from their prior winter home in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Bob Bartner’s producer credits include “Superior Donuts,” “Memphis,” “The Norman Conquests” (Tony winner), “Exit the King,“ “Boeing-Boeing” (also a Tony winner) and many other hits. The Bartners have become season presenters at the Asolo Rep and joined its board. Welcome!
