Celebrate the sounds of 36 gifted music students under the direction of world-renowned violinist and conductor Itzhak Perlman at The Perlman Music Program/Suncoast’s Celebration Concert at 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, at the Sarasota Opera House, 61 N. Pineapple Ave., Sarasota. Tickets for the concert are $40, $60 or $80, and can be reserved at Sarasota Opera House’s box office at 366-8450, Ext. 1, or online at PMPSuncoast.org. Student and teacher rush tickets are available for $10 and offered on a first-come basis an hour before the concert at the Opera House with a valid ID. The Perlman and Pearls gala, immediately following the concert, celebrates the culmination of this inspired program with the Perlmans, their faculty, students and PMP/Suncoast sponsors. Tickets, which include VIP seats at the Celebration Concert, begin at $500 per person. For information about sponsorship and the Perlman and Pearls gala, call 350-2338.

Second graders at Out-of-Door Academy crossed the mulch Thursday, May 23 as a symbolic gesture of the lower level entering the higher-level building next year. Third graders crossed the mulch on Tuesday, May 21 but the second graders – next year’s third graders – will be the first second graders to cross the mulch and be in the new building. Out-of-Door Academy donated the left over food to the Salvation Army. Approximately 38 children played games and later crossed the courtyard as parents snapped photographs. -
