At-large Commissioner Phillip Younger will run for his first official two-year term in March after being certified to run for the seat by the Sarasota County Supervisor of Elections Office.

In an e-mail to Younger Thursday, Sept. 14, Town Clerk Trish Granger congratulated Younger on having his documentation and 10 signatures certified.

Younger does not have any challengers yet.

But Younger may have to run against former commissioner and mayor Joan Webster, who has not decided whether to run for her former District 4 seat or the at-large seat currently held by Younger.

Younger is a past member of the Code Enforcement Board and Planning and Zoning Board. Younger was selected to fill the remainder of the at-large seat that Gene Jaleski resigned from earlier this year.

District 4 Commissioner Jim Brown has also picked up a packet and intends to run for a second term.

Any other interested citizens can request a commission candidate qualification packet by calling Granger at 316-1999.
