The Virginia-based all-women shooting group Girls Really Into Shooting, or GRITS, hopes to make a bang in East County.

Organization founder Elizabeth Lanier, of Lanier Shooting Sports, will be in Lakewood Ranch Thursday to promote the organization and the possible formation of a Lakewood Ranch chapter.

Lanier will be at Ancient Oak Gun Club to meet with interested women, and shoot along side them, starting at 10:30 a.m.

Lanier launched GRITS nationally in November and said Ancient Oaks was one of the first gun clubs to offer support.

"I'm a shooting instructor and I started a women's shooting group for fun because I went shooting years ago and had such a good time," Lanier said. "I wasn't very good at it, but I loved it. It started with four women. Now, we have more than 100 (in the Richmond, Va. area)."
