SARASOTA — A one-vehicle fatal accident early this morning delayed traffic for more than an hour and forced the closure of a nearby business for the entire day.

Billie Winder, 27, was killed when her vehicle went into a skid and struck a concrete pole at 201 South Tuttle Avenue, just south of Ringling Boulevard. She was not wearing her seat belt.

The crash occurred before 5 a.m., six blocks from Winder’s home.

Traffic was rerouted in the area until about 8:30 a.m., while police conducted an investigation.

The accident occurred in front of the nonprofit businesses Girls Incorporated, and the vehicle actually knocked out the water line feeding the business, so the business has been closed for the day.
