A new frozen treat hit the Sarasota streets this week. On Monday, shoppers at Whole Foods Market gathered for samples of Wine Cellar Sorbets.

Wine Cellar Sorbets are made from vintage wines in nine flavors and are hand-poured into pint-sized containers. And, they’re even healthy.

“There’s no soy, wheat, dairy, fat, gluten or cholesterol,” said Steve Clark, vice president of events and promotions for Wine Cellar Sorbets, Inc. “They only contain about 450 calories (a pint).”

Three years ago when co-owners David Zablocki and Bret Burnbaum started Wine Cellar Sorbets, only those  21 and older could purchase the product because of its alcohol content. Now, each pint contains up to .5% alcohol by volume and is considered non-alcoholic, so it’s legal in 30 states and 350 stores.

“It’s not hard to eliminate the alcohol from wine,” Clark said. “The trick is to how to do it without destroying it, and Dave can remove it without damage.”
