WHAT'S THE BUZZ?

As Sarasota settles into National Drive Electric week, residents may be wondering: How much use do those free electric vehicle charging stations actually get? How much do our municipalities spend on free electricity?

Since installation in 2012, the county’s five charging stations within city limits have dispensed more than 30,000 kilowatt hours, costing roughly $2,200. The city’s two measurable stations have used 34,000 kilowatt hours since they were installed— though Sarasota has four in total. (See above graphic for a map of the stations and usage.)

Servandos to open in former Darwin's space

The Rosemary District will welcome a new face this fall as Servandos moves into the space previously occupied by Darwin’s on 4th.

Matt Dively, Sarasota native and owner of Blu Que Island Grill on Siesta Key, will open the new Mexican restaurant this November in the historic Fourth Street building. According to Dively, he plans to show off the restaurant’s brighter, more colorful interior with a Halloween party before officially opening in early November.

“I’ve been wanting to open something up downtown for a long time,” Dively said. “When I saw this building was available, I was really excited. This neighborhood has a lot going for it. It will be nice to work downtown and meet more local diners.”
