Learn about marine animals and environments that inspire Mote scientists at this week’s “Behind the Science” program from 10 to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, at Mote Marine Laboratory, 1600 Ken Thompson Parkway.

This week’s topic is “Exploring the Bay.” Participants should wear closed-toed, closed-heeled shoes and be prepared to get wet as they wade through the water to collect critters with nets. The program is open to children ages 6 and up and adults. Children under 14 must attend with a parent. Cost is $10 for members; $12 for non-members. Pre-registration is required.

“Behind the Science” programs take place Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays with six topics featured on a rotating basis.
