The Sarasota Orchestra explores modern classical music with a diverse program, including "TraInspOrt," a jazzy, rock-influenced work by Theodore Burkali; "Six Bagatelles," by Webern, a short piece that proved his importance as a composer, and "Voice of the Whale," by George Crumb, a wild, avant-garde piece of music. Also on the program is "Thirteen Ways," by American composer Thomas Albert, which combines poetry and dream-like music.

Tattoo fads come and go. But traditional American tattoo art, pioneered and popularized by artists such as Norman "Sailor Jerry" Collins, has stood the test of time. Karl Boardman, a local artist who apprenticed in San Francisco before recently moving back, is pays homage to the traditional style, adding his own fresh touch. You've seen iconcept — now see what happens when the spotlight is on kids. The inaugural iconcept Jr. fashion show features emerging artists and designers, ages 8 through 18, who will create outfits using unconventional materials. The event will showcase more than 30 designs using recycled, repurposed and many unusual materials and will raise funds to benefit Art Center Sarasota’s youth art camps the Slice of Art Outreach Program offered free to public schools.
