S.O.S. for the S.S. Glenridge

All hands were on deck during the recovery of the S.S. Glenridge.

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary members responded to the scene at The Glenridge on Palmer Ranch to help retrieve the sunken S.S. Glenridge, a 2-foot-long remote-controlled boat. An estimated 50 residents were in attendance to watch diver Jason Tornichio rescue the boat from the depths of the lake at the center of the community.

A month earlier, The Glenridge had hosted a regatta on the lake on a windy day with about 10 participants. The owner of the boat lost remote control of the vessel, sending it into a spin until it finally nosedived into the lake. While the Tornichio was retrieving the boat he took care to put the top that had broken apart from the hull back in place before bringing it to the surface.

The Glenridge CEO Howard Crowell was pleased with the level of professionalism the Coast Guard Auxiliary displayed.

"He played his role in first-class fashion," Crowell said. "The whole thing is about enjoyment, fun, camaraderie...at The Glenridge. It's the attitude around here that makes The Glenridge special."
