Webster not running for commissioner

With a week to go until the Monday, Nov. 15, commissioner qualification deadline, at-large Commissioner Phillip Younger has no challengers for his commission seat.

Former Mayor Joan Webster announced in a press release that she would not seek another two-year term as a commissioner.

The news comes less than a week after Town Clerk Trish Granger notified The Longboat Observer that Ray Rajewski, a town tax oversight committee member who had filed paperwork to run for the seat, also has decided not to run for the at-large seat.

Alan Moore, co-owner of Moore’s Stonecrab Restaurant & Marina, also has decided not to run for a commission seat this March.

Younger is a past member of the Code Enforcement Board and Planning and Zoning Board. Younger was selected to fill the remainder of the at-large seat that Gene Jaleski resigned from earlier this year.

District 4 Commissioner Jim Brown has also picked up a packet and intends to run for a second term.

Any other interested citizens can request a commission candidate qualification packet by calling Granger at 316-1999. The deadline for commissioner qualification is Monday, Nov. 15.
