It was something he had never seen before. Last Wednesday, Longbeach Village Homeowners Association President Michael Drake was coming down Broadway, in the Village, when he noticed something unusual.

Sitting perched on top of the former Longbeach Chevron building was not an egret, or even a peacock, as one might expect, but a golden toilet.

“It was one of the funniest and strangest things I’ve ever seen in the Village,” Drake said.

He stopped to get photos of the golden throne, which was accompanied by a face someone had drawn on it in black marker.

Tampa-based J.H. Williams Oil Co., which owns the property, hired a crane to remove the toilet. But that still leaves the question, how did it get up there in the first place?
