The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested the alleged suspect of several armed robberies along U.S. 41.

On Saturday, A deputy spotted Michael White, 50, driving behind businesses. His vehicle matched the description of a vehicle used to flee another armed robbery the previous evening. The vehicle’s tag number matched that of a car stolen in Collier County July 26, according to a press release.

A Tactical Unit Deputy along with several unmarked units followed White.

When the deputy pulled White over on Payne Parkway, White leaned toward the passenger-side window and pointed a handgun towards a deputy. He then revved his engine, as if to attempt to drive off, the release said. Another deputy in another vehicle blocked White and he lost his grip on his gun, which fell out of the window.

White was taken to the Sarasota County Jail.

White has been previously arrested several times for cocaine possession, armed burglary, carrying a concealed weapon and violating probation.

Investigation into the series of robberies in the city and county is still ongoing.
