As part of an ongoing investigation, the Sarasota Police Department has released a video of a man suspected of beating and robbing another man today.

The victim told officers that he and the suspect left a gas station at 2267 Ringling Blvd. on March 25, and walked toward the train tracks. As they were walking, the victim said, the other man took out a piece of wood and struck the victim from behind. The suspect continued to strike the man, pulled out a knife and took the victim’s money before leaving the scene.

Security video from the gas station shows the men entering the convenience store, making a purchase and exiting together. An employee at the station said the men appeared to be intoxicated, and asked if they sold synthetic marijuana before leaving.

The police requested that anyone with information on the suspect or the case contact SPD Detective Maria Llovio at 364-7336. People can also leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers by calling 366-8477 or by visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
