Sarasota County commissioners shoveled some dirt at a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gulf Gate Library 9 a.m., Sept. 6., at 7112 Curtiss Avenue.
The library is expected to open in the spring of 2014. County officials say the Gulf Gate Library is the busiest library in Sarasota County's nine library systems in terms of items circulated. The total cost of the project is $7.5 million and is funded throught the Surtax III Capital Improvement Program.
"My fourth term and last term in office is up a year from November, and I have been promised we'll do a ribbon cutting before I leave office," Sarasota County commissioner Nora Patterson said. "It is within my district, we're all elected at-large and all our library's are special, but this one has a special place in my heart."
