Vehicle burglaries flare up on Siesta Key

Lock your cars, and keep things you store in them out of plain sight.

Sarasota Sheriff’s Deputy Sergeant J. Mruczek advised attendees at the Nov. 3 Siesta Key Village Association meeting that there were 11 automobile burglaries on the key in October.

The crimes took place in areas east of the village and east of the public beach, further south, he said, mostly during late evening and at night. Items stolen include wallets, change, and Ipads. 

Mruczek said the sheriff’s office has identified possible suspects related to the cases, and the investigation is ongoing.

Most of the burglaries involved unlocked cars, according to Mruczek, and so people can take precautions against being victimized by locking vehicles and removing valuables or keeping them out of sight.

People should also report suspicious activities, he said.
