Drivers on U.S. 301 are being treated to a welcome sight.

The FDOT project, which began in October 2009, from Wood Street to Myrtle Street is now complete.

Work included widening a portion of the street from four lanes to six lanes, reconstructing the U.S. 301 and Fruitville Road intersection, installing a traffic signal at U.S. 301 and 10th Street and replacing older traffic signals where U.S. 301 intersects with 12th Street, 17th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Way.

The project was completed within its $18.3 million budget.

A second portion of the U.S. 301 construction, from Myrtle Street to Desoto Road, will not be complete until early fall.
